In chapter 22 of the book of Genesis we see the picture of God's love for us humans:

"After these things, God tested Abraham and said to him, 'Abraham!'  God said to him, "Take your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac; go to the land of Moriah and offer it burnt offering there, on a mountain that I will tell you."  Abraham got up early in the morning, put the saddle on the donkey, and took with him two servants and his son, Isaac.... So they both went together. Then Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, "Father!" "What is it, son?" he replied. Isaac said again, "Here is the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"  "My son," Abraham answered, "God himself will take care of the lamb for the burnt offering." And they both went forward together. When they came to the place that God had told him, Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood on it. And he bound his son, Isaac, and set him on the altar above the wood, and Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. Then the angel of the Lord cried out to him from heaven and said, "Abraham! Abraham!"  The angel said, "Do not lay your hands on the boy or do anything to him; for I know now that you fear God, because you have not spared your son, your only son, for Me's sake."  Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw behind him a ram entangled with its horns in a bush; and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it as a burnt offering in the place of his son. Abraham called the place, "The Lord shall take care of it." That is why it is still said today: "To the mountain where the Lord will take care." ^[1]

The most important thing in our lives is our encounter with the Lord Jesus. At the end of human history there is only one thing left, and that does not refer to anything we have done or achieved on this earth, but whether we have had a day when we have met God and asked for forgiveness for our sins. For this reason the Lord Jesus came and died on this earth, to give us forgiveness of sins.

We have all committed serious sins against God, but He, in His mercy, desires to blot out all our sins and cleanse us through the blood of His Son. One day He will put before our eyes everything we have done in secret, so that we will not be able to excuse ourselves before Him. The Lord Jesus is the Savior of mankind and He wants to save every soul from the bonds of sin.

Abraham was a faithful man among those of his time, he lived among people with corrupt thinking, so God took him out of his father's house and set him apart for the work he was going to do through him. At the age of seventy-five, Abraham came out of your, and for twenty-five years he waited for the promise that God had made to him, namely, that he would have a son. Abraham arrives in the land of Canaan and after a miracle performed by the Lord, he ends up having a son with his wife whom he names Isaac. Although Abraham was very old in age, about a hundred years old, and Sarah, his wife ninety-nine years old, sees the fulfillment of God's promise in the fact that a son has been born to him.

It appears that Isaac was about fifteen years old in this chapter. Isaac was Jacob's only son whom he loved. The Lord tells Abraham to take his only beloved son to offer as a sacrifice for Him. In the mind of man this was foolishness because God did not ask for human sacrifices and, secondly, the promise by which the Lord had sworn to Abraham that he would be the father of many men could no longer be fulfilled. ^[2] Abraham did not think, but he believed God, and this is counted to him as righteousness. Early in the morning he went to the mountain that the Lord God had indicated to him with his son, to Mount Moriah, which was on the outskirts of the city that at that time was called Salem, and today is called Jerusalem. These things were two thousand years before the Lord Jesus came into the world, and Abraham had met with the king of Salem, Melchizedek who was a priest of God. The people of that time knew God. In order for him to reach Mount Moria, he had to enter through the city of Salem.

In the same place where Jesus was crucified, God had asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. God wanted us to understand the pain caused by sacrificing a son to his father who loved him above all else. Abraham was the one who had to sacrifice his own son, and the pain in his heart was unimaginable. Isaac understood that he was going to be the burnt offering, because for three days he had carried the wood on which he was to be offered as a sacrifice, without having the lamb for the burnt offering. Abraham probably even told him who was going to be the sacrificial lamb, and Isaac did not resist. Abraham believed that God could raise Isaac from the dead, so that God's promise to him would be fulfilled. When Abraham prepares to sacrifice Isaac, the Angel of the Lord, that is, the Lord Jesus, looks at this scene and stops him. God sees that Abraham's love for Him was above the love he felt for his son Isaac.

Abraham names the place where he was to sacrifice Isaac the name "The Lord will take care of it." God Himself was to take care of that sacrifice which was the Lord Jesus, His only beloved Son. Two thousand years later, on the mountain where "the Lord will take care" on the same road with the wood of the cross on his back, the Lord Jesus ascends, and his sacrifice is completed. He was the sacrificial Lamb, the One who took away the sin of the world. All our sins have been laid upon Him, the Lord has borne our filth, and God's wrath is laid upon Him because of us. The Lord Jesus placed himself between us and God, and the Lord Jesus prayed from the cross: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing!" The Lord had the power to come down from the cross, to give up saving us, but He did not do this but went to the end. A verse from the Bible shows us what God's heart was like towards us, sinful people: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." ^[3]

The book of Luke describes this scene of God's wrath that had fallen on His Son: "While they were taking Him to be crucified, they seized a certain Simon of Cyrena, who was returning from the field; And they put the cross on his back, that they might follow Jesus. Behind Jesus went a great crowd of people and women who were mourning, beating their breasts, and mourning for Him. Jesus turned to them and said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me; but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days will come when it will be said, "Blessed are the barren, blessed are the wombs that have not borne and the breasts that have not suckled."  Then they will begin to say to the mountains, "Fall on us," and to the hills, "Cover us."  For if these things are done to the green tree, what will be done to the dry one?"  With Him they also carried two evildoers who were to be killed with Jesus. When they arrived at the place called "The Head," they crucified Him and the evildoers there: one on the right and the other on the left. Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." ^[4]

The Lord Jesus suffered untold torments by sitting for six hours on the cross, hours during which all the blood of His Body flowed and was shed on the earth. The thing we will be called to account for is what was our attitude toward the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. He was sacrificed as a sacrificial lamb for us, who were God's enemies through our sins. This is the essence of Christianity, and if our hearts are cold in the face of the death of the Son of God, we will not escape the wrath of God that will fall on all those who did not believe in His sacrifice.

The Lord Jesus gave His life willingly, He was not bound by the Father. Before the cross we must have an attitude of repentance, because the Son of God suffered because of us. We must mourn our sins, ask for mercy from the Lord God so that our sins may be blotted out and we may not fall under judgment.

"For while we were yet without power, Christ died in due time for the ungodly. For a righteous man would hardly die; but for his benefactor, perhaps someone would be found to die. But God shows His love for us in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." ^[5] So great was God's love for every man on this earth. We can show our love for God if we repent of our sins and follow Him by faith for the rest of our lives. "We love Him, because He first loved us." ^[6]

God still transforms the lives of people who stand before Him with repentance, tears, and pain for their sins. If we want to know Him, He will be made known to us, because that is God's desire for us, to make us His children who will be with Him in eternity. Let us not be indifferent to the salvation of the Lord Jesus, for the Father is about to begin judgment, and to punish all who have rejected His only begotten Son.
